Kisei's Writing
Here is where Kisei writes his own opinions about
design,
product,
LLM dangers
and his life.

I don't use LLM to support my writings, only for coding this site. My blogs might feature both Vietnamese and English language. This site is not using any cookies or tracking services, don't worry.

Writing is Thinking

Mike Monterio writes this in his book ‘Design is a Job’:

‘This bears repeating: no one’s going to know what you think about unless you write and publish your opinions.’

There is an appeal when you see someone’s writing that you normally can’t just ‘deduce’ from their voice alone. Writing forces us to think more critically. Writing forces us to choose words carefully when speaking is not enough. You’re going on the record as someone who thinks about the decisions why they do what they do, and what results born from your decisions. And the more you write, the better you’ll get at this stuff.

Writing is also how you establish your own voice, your own personal authentic brand in this age of ‘moving fast and breaking things’. I used to very shy and insecure about my writings (and still am). Yet for the sake of my careers (and to combat the slops), I push the boundaries of my insecurity about writing a little bit every day (or every month if you feel a little too daunting). People also will have a clearer picture of what designer you are, what opinions you want to convey (and make your hiring manager put more trust into you).

Writing is documenting your design evolution. Writing materialize your decisions, it reminds you of your past lessons and learning. Those scribbles, 2-min done quick doodles, text document proposals and many more serve as your wins over time. You never know when you need them most when the time calls.

Writing itself is a discovery, a journey to your inner self. There is a beauty in both writing in concise manners, and also in the messy, chaotic words you put when the day not going in your favors.

Most of design is writing, writing is both problem discovery and solution delivery action. It’s very difficult and tedious to write well. This is why I think it’s worth doing, because writing makes you a better designer and a more confident person. Don’t use LLM though, its writings suck, period.
